Connoquenessing church builds garden for Grapevine Center
Volunteers from the Church of God at Connoquenessing built a box garden Thursday, May 29, at the Grapevine Center in Butler. The project is the latest in volunteers’ ongoing two-year effort supporting the center, which provides services for people with mental health issues.
Matthew Karns and his wife Kimberly led four volunteers from the church who were joined by Grapevine clients in building the box with materials, dirt and plants donated by Lowe’s. The plants include vegetables and herbs that the center can use in meals.
“This is really helpful for them mentally and physically. It gets them out in the sun. Working in the soil is very therapeutic. Its’ good for them emotionally and mentally,” Karns said.
Over the last two years, the church has supported the center with hot meals, Bible studies, cooking lessons and craft nights, he said.
