Charles Schmitzer III

Charles F. Schmitzer III, 88, of Butler, passed away Monday, May 26, 2025, at his residence.

Born in Pittsburgh on Aug. 22, 1936, he was a son of the late Charles F. Schmitzer Jr. and Helen J. Nacey Schmitzer.

A veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, he served from 1956 to 1962. He was stationed aboard the U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker Storis, which was the first ship to circumnavigate the northwest continent, and he served at Kodiak Island, Alaska, as search and rescue.

Chuck started the Able Agency Inc. Realtor Company in 1979 at 400 N. Main St., Butler. He was the owner/broker until 1992, when the Able Agency merged with Howard Hanna Real Estate Company. The real estate profession was a lifestyle to Chuck; he enjoyed helping people and sharing his knowledge and expertise, and he worked as an active real estate sales associate/broker until his passing.

As a dedicated real estate professional for many years, Chuck was a member of several industry organizations and groups, including the Board of Realtors and the Millionaire Club. He was awarded Butler County Realtor of the Year in 1997 and in 2018.

He was a member of All Saints Parish, and he was a former Rotarian.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Martha J. Connor Schmitzer, whom he married Feb. 26, 1963; three children, Chuckie Schmitzer IV of Butler, Jeanene D. Harris and her husband, Robert, of Flower Mound, Texas, and Joseph W. Schmitzer Sr. of Butler; four siblings, Diane Kimpton and her husband, Walter, of Hiram, Ohio, Sandy Kohl of Mars, Dottie Carothers, of Zelienople, and Tom Schmitzer and his wife, Joan, of Boardman, Ohio.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, Joey Schmitzer Jr., Emily Page Schmitzer, Zachary C. Harris, Sophia Rose Harris, Jacob Harris and Veronica Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph Johovics Sr. and Nellie Nacey Johovics; one sister, Helen Jean Moore; and one brother-in-law, Frank Carothers.

SCHMITZER — Visitation and services for Charles F. Schmitzer III, who died Monday, May 26, 2025, were private, and entombment with military honors took place at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
