Daughters of the American Revolution rededicating historic marker

The General Richard Butler Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will have a ceremony Sunday, June 1, to rededicate the marker honoring the Marquis de Lafayette and his historic visit to Butler in 1825.

The chapter is celebrating the Bicentennial of the Marquis de Lafayette’s Farewell Tour of America and his visit to Butler 200 years ago. The marker was placed by the Chapter in 1937 and commemorates his June 1, 1825, visit to Butler.

This celebration honors the visit to America of the last of the surviving Major Generals of the American Revolution. Lafayette is recognized as the Hero of Two Worlds — America and France — according to a news release from the group.

The event takes place at 2 p.m. in front of the Lafayette Building in Butler, 302 S. Main St. in Butler. The event is open to the public.
