Betty Steiner
Betty J. Gilleland Steiner, 100, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Gibsonia, passed away Sunday evening, May 18, 2025, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater.
Born in Valencia on June 15, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William O. and Clara L. Kennedy Gilleland.
She was assistant postmaster for Valencia from 1942 to 1946. She wrote for the Valencia Vagabond during the war. This was a news magazine for servicemen. Betty had been a medical receptionist for a medical office in Pittsburgh and Largo, Fla. for 28 years. For many years she was a Pinellas County poll worker.
After World War II, she married Ralph Steiner, Feb. 16, 1946, upon his return from the Philippines and Japan.
She is survived by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, a nephew, several great-nieces and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph R. Steiner; two sons, James R. Steiner and Ronald D. Steiner; her sister, Helen V. Porter; and a brother, William Kennedy Gilleland.
She was a superfan of college sports, and always learning, reading, writing and baking cookies for friends and family. She moved from Gibsonia to Clearwater, Fla. in 1976, with concern for Ralph’s health.
STEINER — Friends of Betty J. Gilleland Steiner, who died Sunday evening, May 18, 2025, will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in West Union Cemetery, Gibsonia.
