Time Capsule: Electrical issues potentially start fire, pets OK
A fire on Meridian Road in Butler Township on May 29, 2008, was blamed on an overheated extension cord by the house’s owner, but firefighters on scene did not identify the exact cause of the flame that day.
While everyone made it out of the house safely, the owners of the house, the Orlowskis, had to temporarily relocate their puppy and two cockatiels to an SUV parked across Meridian Road.
“Nothing ever runs smoothly,” said Cynthia Orlowski, trying to calm her 6-month-old Boston terrier, Gidget, as multiple fire departments worked on her house around noon.
Gidget paced in the vehicle’s front seats as the family’s cockatiels, Cooper and Spencer, chatted in the back. The birds, apparently, were a little anxious about being in a cage.
Just minutes earlier, they had been in their usual spot, freely roaming a bedroom in the top floor of the family’s farmhouse that was built in the late 1930s.
