Billy Joel cancels touring after being diagnosed with a brain disorder
Billy Joel has canceled all his upcoming concerts across North America and England after being diagnosed with fluid buildup in his brain that has affected his “hearing, vision and balance.”
Joel revealed on Instagram that he has Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, “a brain disorder that can affect brain-related abilities, including thinking and concentrating, memory, movement and more,” the Cleveland Clinic says.
“This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision and balance,” according to a statement from Joel’s team. “Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period.”
In an accompanying statement, Joel said, “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.”
In March, “The Piano Man” and “Uptown Girl” singer announced that he underwent surgery and had to undergo physical therapy. A statement at the time said doctors expected him to make a full recovery. It is unclear if his medical issues at the time were related to Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus.
The condition can cause problems with walking, bladder control and thinking, with symptoms worsening if left untreated. It’s relatively rare and can be hard to diagnose. It can be treated successfully with surgery to install a tube to drain excess fluid. Patients may need physical therapy in addition to surgery.
Joel, 76, wrapped up his decadelong residency at Madison Square Garden in July 2024 and continued to tour. His planned summer stops included shows at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field in New York, and MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Tickets for all the shows will be refunded.

Zachary Levi describes facing wrath of Hollywood for supporting Trump
Zachary Levi, who once said he lost out on acting gigs because he was “too Jewish,” is now opening up on navigating the backlash he’s faced due to his support of Donald Trump and espousing controversial views on COVID-19 vaccines.
The “Shazam!” star endorsed Trump in the 2024 presidential election after his preferred candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dropped out and joined forces with the MAGA leader.
Already courting “cancellation” because of his vaccine skepticism, he called the move “career suicide” at the time because “Hollywood is a very, very liberal town.”
In a wide-ranging interview published Thursday, Levi revealed that he’s since experienced the wrath of Hollywood.
“I know that there are people that would prefer not to work with me now because of my opinions. My team has let me know,” he told Variety executive editor Tatiana Siegel. “They haven’t given me any specific names, but there are people who prefer not to work with me at this time. And it’s unfortunate.”
The self-described Hollywood pariah — whose credits include “ Chuck,” “Thor: Ragnarok” and “ Harold and the Purple Crayon” — also revealed that while he may be one of few people in the industry who publicly came forward with their support of Trump, he’s not the only one.
“I know it to be true because I’ve gotten messages from lots of people who I won’t name but who were very grateful to me for taking the stand that I took,” Levi said. “They would tell me, ‘I want to do that, but I’m so afraid.’ And I would tell them, ‘Listen, you’re on your journey. I’m on my journey. You’ve got to keep trusting God. And if you feel compelled to step out in that way, then do it boldly and know that you’re going to be OK. And if you don’t feel that conviction yet, then don’t. It’s all good.’”
The 44-year-old Louisiana native, who welcomed his first child with photographer Maggie Keating in April, also shared his true thoughts on Trump himself, saying he’s not blind to certain issues.
“I was not a fan of Trump’s Trumpiness. I didn’t like a lot of these personal things, the ways that he carries himself a lot of the time,” Levi confessed. “I understand people’s aversion. Do I think the whole package is somehow perfect? No. In fact, most people who voted for Donald Trump recognize a lot of the imperfections in all of it. Nobody was saying, ‘This is the Orange Messiah.’”

Demi Lovato marries singer-songwriter Jordan 'Jutes' Lutes in California
She's more than just cool for the summer — Demi Lovato is officially married.
The musician-actor, 32, tied the knot with Canadian singer-songwriter Jordan “Jutes” Lutes, 34, on Sunday in California, as first exclusively reported by Vogue.
The couple met while working on Lovato's last album, 2022's “Holy Fvck,” and dated for nearly two years before Lutes proposed in December 2023. Lutes co-wrote a few of the songs that made “Holy Fvck,” including “Happy Ending,” “City of Angels,” and the pop-punk single, “Substance.”
Lovato wore a white Vivienne Westwood dress and Lutes wore a Saint Laurent suit.
Messages seeking comment were sent to Lovato’s representatives.
Lovato, a former child star, began her entertainment career on “Barney & Friends” before becoming a staple of the Disney Channel in the 2000s for her role in the “Camp Rock” films and as the star of “Sonny with a Chance.” Beyond her acting, Lovato has long been celebrated for her gifted soprano and has released eight albums.
Lutes, an independent artist whose hybridist music marries elements of emo, pop-punk and trap, was previously signed to Capitol Records.
Prior to her relationship with Lutes, Lovato was engaged to the actor Max Ehrich in 2020. They called off their engagement after two months.
