Remember and honor the soldiers this Memorial Day
On Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the sacrifices of those who served in our armed forces.
This year is marked by the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War and the 80th anniversary of the conclusion of World War II. These anniversaries remind us of the hard truths of war: that great sacrifices must be made for the preservation of peace and freedom. Unfortunately, both come at a high price, and to those who paid it, we owe you our eternal gratitude.
This Memorial Day, I urge you to reflect on the meaning of this day. I encourage you to spend time with family, friends and neighbors to remember the lives of those who are no longer with us. Honor them by sharing their stories and join in a National Day of Remembrance in honor of America’s fallen heroes at 3 p.m. Monday with a moment of silence.
As you enjoy the holiday Monday, I invite you to take a moment to reflect on the significance of this day. Take a moment to honor those who made the freedoms we enjoy today possible.
Let the memory of those we have lost serve as a reminder of the fragility and preciousness of life. Let the service and sacrifices of America’s fallen heroes give you the courage to do the impossible and inspire you to do great things.
