Summer camps bring the fun across the county

Camp Alameda

Butler’s Alameda Park hosts Camp Alameda on weekdays from June 9 through Aug. 8.

During sessions, Camp Alameda is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with late pickup offered until 5 p.m.

Camp sessions are five days each and campers are divided up into age-appropriate activities throughout the day. The camp is open to children ages 5 to 12. The cost is $130 per child per week.

Messy Madness week is from June 9 to 13.

Sports Extravaganza week is from June 16 to 20.

Survivor week is from June 23 to 27.

Hero vs. Villian week is from July 7 to 11.

Water Week is from July 14 to 18.

Nature Week is from July 21 to 25.

Mythbusters is from July 28 to Aug. 1.

Circus Week is from Aug. 4 to 8.

Butler County YMCA camps

Both YMCA locations in Butler County — the Butler YMCA and the Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA in Cranberry — offer summer camps.

The summer camp at the Butler YMCA starts June 2 and lasts until Aug. 29, and is open to children in pre-K through grade six. Children will be taken by bus from the Butler YMCA to ARMCO Park in Slippery Rock and then back to the Butler YMCA each day. The cost is $215 per week per child for five days per week and $150 for three days per week.

The first week, from June 2 through 6, follows the theme, “Summer Adventure.”

The Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA offers a school-age summer camp and a preschool summer camp. Both camps start June 9 and last until August 15.

The school-age camp is open to children from pre-K age to sixth grade. Registration fees are $215 a week for current YMCA members and $235 a week for nonmembers.

Preschool camp is open to children ages 3 to 6, and is split into two groups: Little Learners, for those attending three days per week, and Mini Movers, for those attending two days.

Registration fees for Little Learners are $80 per week for YMCA members and $110 per week for nonmembers. For Mini Movers, registration costs $55 per week for members and $75 per week for nonmembers.

Butler Catholic School camps

Butler Catholic School offers three weeks of camp in July. The camps are open to the public, and all camps will be held at Butler Catholic School.

Cheer Camp is for kindergarten through third grade from 9 a.m. to noon July 14-17. Busy Bees Camp is for kindergarten through fourth grade from 9 a.m. to noon July 21 to 24. Life Lab Camp is for fourth through eighth grade 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.July 28-31.

Camp Breakthrough

Camp Breakthrough runs for 11 week from June 9 to Aug. 22 for children entering kindergarten through seventh grade. Camp runs each day from 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Cost is $45 per week.

The camp’s home base is Memorial Park with indoor space at First English Lutheran Church. The camp has scheduled field trips to the Pittsburgh Zoo, Altitude and Acrisure Stadium.

Camp Cranberry

Camp Cranberry is a weekly, theme-focused day camp focused on developing physical, social, and decision-making skills; promoting self-confidence; and having fun from June 9 to Aug. 15.

Camp Cranberry offers full and half day options for the Mini Movers ages 3 to 5 at the Cranberry Township Municipal Building. Little Achievers for ages 5 to 7 offers a half day, full day or extended day option at North Boundary Park.

Youth Camp offers a full or extended day option and follows a weekly theme at North Boundary Park. Camp for children age 6 to 8 is located at the Dan Baker Shelter. Youth Camp for ages 9 to 12 is located at the Penn Power Shelter.

Future Leaders Camp is designed for ages 13 to 15 and offers teens the ability to get out of the house and enjoy the summer outside while learning and experiencing new things each week. Future Leaders have the opportunity to learn new skills such as CPR, Safe Sitter babysitting, job preparation techniques and what it takes to be a camp counselor. Camp meets at the North Boundary Shelter.

Summer Chess Camp is for ages 7 to 15 from 10 a.m. to noon at Bear Run. Activities will include, interactive lessons, tournament play, puzzle-solving competitions and fun team activities. Activities will be tailored to each student's playing strength. Students must know how the pieces move to join.

Mad Science: Secret Agent Camp is for ages 6 to 13 from 9 a.m. to noon July 21 to 25 at Ogle View Station. Students will uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis, and discover how chemistry and the science of forensics can come to the aid of a secret agent.

DiscoverE

DiscoverE is a hands-on day camp experience that allows children to explore nature while building confidence, curiosity of the natural world and social skills.

Camp for ages 4 to 7 will take place Tuesdays and ages 8 to 12 Thursdays. All sessions will take place 10 a.m. to noon for $5 per child per session. DiscoverE is held at Jennings Environmental Education Center. For questions or to register, call the center at 724-794-6011.

Kids Innovation Playground

Kids innovation playground is a nonprofit organization with a mission to bridge the educational gap in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. Summer STEAM workshops are available for preschool through eighth grade. Morning, afternoon, evening and full day workshops are available for $35 each.

Kids on Campus

Camps for children in first through eighth grade run Monday through Thursday at Butler County Community College on the following weeks: June 9 to 12, June 16 to 19, June 23 to 26, July 7 to 10, July 14 to 17 and July 21 to 24.

Morning care is offered from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and afternoon care is offered from 4 to 5 p.m. Morning care is offered at a cost of $30 per week, and afternoon care costs $20 per week. Camps are available for soon-to-be first-graders, second- through fourth-graders, and fifth- through eighth-graders.

Mars Robotics Association camps

The Mars Robotics Association is holding a series of four weeklong camps this summer for students in fourth through eighth grade.

The first, Girls Only Rocketry & Martian Rover, is centered around building rockets and Martian rovers, and is scheduled for July 22 to 26.

The second is Rocketry & Martian Rover Exploration Camp scheduled for July 29 to Aug. 2.

Finally, a Leonardo da Vinci camp is scheduled for Aug. 12 to 16, wherein students will explore the life and achievements of the famous inventor and artist. The instructor for this course is author Elizabeth Pagel-Hogan.

The cost of registration is $250 per week. Classes will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for students in grades four through eight.

Penns Adventurers Day Camp

Children ages 9 to 12 are invited to become Penns Adventurers as students learn about outdoor skills and take on new adventures at Moraine State Park. July 10 will offer kayaking and fishing, and July 24 will offer archery and disc golf.

Camp runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and meets at Lakeview Pavilion 4, Lakeview Beach North Shore. Cost is $10 per student to attend both days.

Summer Musical Theater Camp

Summer Musical Theater Camp will run 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 16-20, 2025, at Freeport Area Middle School. This weeklong camp will provide students the opportunity to learn everything there is to know about putting together a musical, from choreography, acting, singing, stagecraft and more!
