Clinton Township voters decide Saxon Golf Course can sell alcohol

Clinton Township voters decided Tuesday, May 20, that a golf course will be able to serve alcohol in the township.

The referendum received 524 votes in the affirmative and 158 votes against, according to unofficial election results from Tuesday’s primary reported in Butler County Bureau of Elections summary reports.

The referendum asked voters to consider whether privately owned public golf courses in the township be allowed to sell alcohol. It will currently apply only to Saxon Golf Course — a 27-hole public golf facility which was looking to sell alcoholic beverages in the normally dry township.

According to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, as of January, Clinton Township is one of 29 municipalities in Butler County to restrict sales of either retail beer, retail liquor or both. As of May 2025, the board’s database contains only one liquor license with a Clinton Township address — a grain alcohol license for a private home on Ekastown Road.
