Butler Township Commissioners approve road paving projects
BUTLER TWP — Township commissioners during a meeting on Monday, May 19, awarded road resurfacing and seal coating contracts for projects that will take place later this summer.
Bids for road paving were opened during an April 21 meeting before the public works department evaluated all of the offers for recommendation, according to township manager Tom Knights.
This year’s project went to Wiest Asphalt & Paving at a cost of $778,583 and will cover 23 roads throughout the township.
The commissioners also awarded the seal coat project to Russell Standard for $74,477. That maintenance work is set to encompass nine roads. Those companies also received road maintenance contracts from the township last year.
Commissioners said they expect work to begin sometime in late July or early August.
In other business, commissioners authorized the Butler Area Sewer Authority to seek a certificate of termination from the state.
According to Knights, since the organization is no longer operational, it is required under state law that a document be filed to officially end the existence of the limited liability company.
The commissioners also approved a temporary new member by approving Butler High School’s Lucca Unik as their student representative for the 2025-26 school year. Unik will sit in on council meetings beginning in September.
