Butler man accused of sexually assaulting girl with autism, waives hearing

A Butler man accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl with autism waived his preliminary hearing Monday, May 19, before a district judge.

Ivan Cumba, 53, was charged with felony aggravated indecent assault, and one misdemeanor count each of indecent assault and corruption of minors following the alleged April 26 incident, according to police.

Police said Cumba arrived unannounced at a Fourth Avenue home and spoke with a woman he had known for years. While the woman was in a bathroom, Cumba went to awaken the girl sleeping upstairs. The woman reportedly told police Cumba’s behavior was not unusual.

Police said the woman exited the bathroom after a short time, went to the girl’s room and found the door closed, which she said was uncommon. The woman entered the room and saw Cumba sitting on the bed next to the girl while she was asleep.

The woman told police she saw Cumba’s hand under the girl’s blanket inside her underwear before she began shouting at him. The woman was able to get Cumba out of the house before calling 911.

Cumba is being held in Butler County Prison with bail denied.
