WEXFORD — Rather than let one half-inning undo it, Seneca Valley went with the flow.
Not long after, junior Mason Fisher’s two-out, sixth-inning bloop single dropped in shallow center field Monday night, scoring courtesy runner Quin Carney and giving the third-seeded Raiders the deciding run in a 4-3 win over No. 6 Mt. Lebanon at North Allegheny High School.
The Blue Devils (8-13) had leveled the scoreboard at three runs apiece in the top of the sixth.
“What’s there to get nervous about?” Seneca Valley coach Eric Semega said. “I’m going to be honest, I’ve been around long enough. It’s a game. ... What are you gonna do? Put pressure on them?”
The Raiders (15-6) advance to the WPIAL Class 6A semifinals to take on No. 2 Canon-McMillan at Upper St. Clair High School at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
“We see two outs,” Fisher said. “I mean, honestly, there’s no nerves. Just go up there and do your thing and just be comfortable and see what happens.”
“You just go up and you grip and rip and what happens, happens,” Semega said. “If it’s not meant to be, what are you going to do? Cry about it?”
Seneca Valley reliever Luis Torrenegra finished things off by fanning a pair and inducing a groundout to second base. He only needed nine pitches to do so.
“We’re always riding off of anything,” Fisher said. “No matter what, even if they go up five there, it doesn’t matter. We’re still in there keeping the morale up and just wanted to come back out and do more.”
