Karns City man accused of rape has 2 charges added
A Karns City man accused of rape had two charges added to his case during a hearing Thursday, May 15, in Butler County Common Pleas Court.
Logan L. Bowser, 22, was charged with felony rape, and one misdemeanor count each of indecent assault and false imprisonment after being accused of raping an 18-year-old woman on July 23, 2023, in Concord Township. Police said testimony and DNA evidence linked Bowser to the crime.
In Thursday’s hearing, assistant district attorney Laura Pitchford added second-degree sexual assault and second-degree misdemeanor indecent assault charges before telling Judge Joseph Kubit the prosecution had already established a prima facie case in the Sept. 10 preliminary hearing before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
The transcript from the preliminary hearing with the arresting officer and victim testimonies was admitted for consideration.
Defense attorney Robbie Martin Taylor disagreed a prima facie case was established and reserved his right to file an objection after reviewing the transcript.
Police said they were contacted by a staff member at Butler Memorial Hospital around 8:30 p.m. the day of the incident and informed an 18-year-old woman had come in for a sexual assault evaluation.
Documents show that during an interview with police, the alleged victim disclosed she had been assaulted by Bowser at a Concord Township home around 5 p.m. that day. Police said the woman went to the home to talk to Bowser where he asked her several times to have sex with him, and she refused.
