Herman Myers
Herman Dean Myers, 86, of Harmony, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 8, 2025, while under the care of UPMC Passavant. A gentle man with a heart of gold, he was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother and uncle. Noted for being the “Cool Uncle” with twinkling blue eyes.
Born July 6, 1938, in Harmony, he was the son of the late Hilbert and Anna (Rein) Myers.
Herman leaves behind a legacy of love to cherish his memory, daughters, Dina (Dale) Barkley and Davina (Frank Baric) Myers; his grandchildren, Israel (Amber) Barkley and Justin (Colleene) Barkley; his great-grandchildren, Treedon, Zaydra, and Olivia; his great-great-grandchild, Aspen; his devoted sister, Hilda Kristophel; and his adored cat, Tiger “Hobo.”
Herman was the owner-operator of Myers Refuse for over 40 years, when Zelienople put up cans along the street, he picked them up weekly at no charge. It was his way of giving back to the community. After retirement, he started a greenhouse business and later a small farm market. He was always keeping busy with something.
Herman, with that lead foot, was also known as “Mr. Excitement” at the local dirt tracks, loved racing, and competing in multiple divisions over his 50 years racing cars. He also enjoyed watching Westerns on TV, football, attending auctions, family gatherings, and reading his farm and dairy paper. He was known for his strong desire for “pop” (Mountain Dew), and giving everyone he met a nickname.
Herman’s kindness, humor, dedication to his family, friends and the community will be deeply missed but fondly remembered and forever cherished. He has left a void that no one can fill.
In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine “Gerry” Myers, whom he married Aug. 1, 1961, and they spent 56 years together until her passing on May 9, 2018; a sister, Luella; and brothers, Donald, Harold, Melvin and Earl.
