SRU holds commencement
More than 1,600 students at Slippery Rock University were eligible to graduate over the weekend, May 9 and 10, at the Morrow Field House.
Each of the four ceremonies that took place over the weekend featured a different keynote speaker. They were Nicole Stout, a 1994 graduate of SRU, senior director of survivorship and wellness for the American Cancer Society; Prasad Vemala, professor of management at Robert Morris University and future dean of the SRU College of Business; Theodorea Berry, a 1985 SRU graduate, dean of Bloomfield College of Montclair State University; and Christopher Clark, president and CEO of Allegheny Health Network Saint Vincent, Grove City and Westfield Memorial Hospitals.
A news release from the university said Larry McCarthy, assistant professor of accounting, economics and finance, served as grand marshal of the ceremonies. SRU President Karen Riley provided remarks and conferred the degrees. There were also greetings from members of the SRU council of trustees; as well as a welcome from Michael Zody, a 1988 graduate, and president of the SRU Alumni Association.
