High school roundup: Addison Burrows leads Karns City softball’s win vs Redbank Valley

Addison Burrows struck out eight, walked one and allowed just one run on four hits in a complete game to spark Karns City’s softball team to a 4-1 win at home Monday against Redbank Valley.

Ronni Radaker collected three hits, including a home run, while Haley Sherman doubled and drove in two runs for the Gremlins.

Union/A-C Valley 19, Forest Area 8 — Alivya Hartzell tallied five of Union/A-C Valley’s 16 hits as the Falcon Knights proved too much for the Fires in a game played in Marienville.

Lillian Hayden and Kya Wetzel both added three hits.

Hayden, Hartzell and Emerson Stevens each doubled in the win.

Baseball

Starting pitcher Landon Roedler and reliever Jack Monaco did not allow an earned run, but Beaver still managed to push a couple of tallies across in a 2-1 defeat of North Catholic.

Owen Beatrice, Matthew Madonna and Jake McKee all had two hits for the Trojans (7-7, 4-7).

Boys tennis

North Catholic, the No. 4 seed in the WPIAL Class 2A team tournament, upset No. 1 South Park 4-1 to advance to Wednesday’s championship match against No. 2 Valley.

The Trojans and Vikings will meet to decide the title at 3:30 p.m. at Washington & Jefferson College’s Janet L. Swanson Tennis Center.

Track and Field

Nicco Baggetta took first place in the boys javelin with a throw of 179 feet, 9 inches to lead Butler’s effort at the Pine-Richland Invitational on Friday.

Girls

High jump: 5. Gracyn Vardy 5-4

Girls lacrosse

Katie Blake scored five goals and Hailey Long another four as Mars downed Mt. Lebanon 14-7 Friday.

Ella Roach made a dozen saves for the Planets.

Boys volleyball

Seneca Valley swept Mars by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-13.
