All About Golf course story

Golf pro Tim Nypaver with All About Golf owner Ken Macadaeg

FRANKLIN TWP — A training ground, practice facility, a place to challenge one’s skills, call it whatever you want.

All About Golf really is all about golf.

“There’s something here for everybody, from beginner to the experienced, top-level golfer,” owner Ken Macadaeg said of the facility located just off Route 422 in Franklin Township.

Ken Macadaeg, co-owner of All About Golf, prepares to replace a head on a golf club in the facility's pro shop.

All About Golf features a 9-hole executive golf course with hole lengths ranging from 65 to 260 yards. The facility has a sizable golf shop, offers club fitting and repairs, all-weather hitting bays, a lighted driving range, target greens, sand traps and practice greens. Buckets of balls are available for driving or chipping.

Toptracer is also available for use in the hitting bays. Golfers can play virtual rounds on some of the best golf courses anywhere through Toptracer (a programmed computer), take part in skill challenges, do practice rounds, compete in longest drive and closest to the pin contests.

Macadaeg said Toptracer remains “very popular here” and is used for all of the purposes listed above.

PGA pro Tim Nypaver has taught lessons at All About Golf for four years now. He can provide individual lessons for 30 or 60 minutes at fees of $65 and $120, respectively. He also offers group lessons for up to four people and individual packages of two hours for $225, four hours for $430, six hours for $620 and 12 hours for $1,200.

“I work with golfers of all abilities, beginners to professionals, from people who have never picked up a club before to seasoned golfers who just want to work on their game,” Nypaver said. “Just about everybody takes more than one lesson. Once they start, they want to see it through.”

Nypaver’s lessons include video analysis. Four-hour and longer lesson packages can be shared by families.

Nypaver works with high school and collegiate golfers as well. Among the high school golfers he’s worked with are those from Butler, Knoch, Freeport, Kiski Area and Armstrong.

The golf shop features everything from clothing, golf bags, clubs, golf balls, etc. Macadaeg said golf balls can cost anywhere from $18 for a package of 15 to $54 for a dozen.

“It all depends on the quality of golf ball the player is looking for,” he said. “We carry the latest line of everything and our prices are competitive with everybody else.”

Those buying a set of clubs at All About Golf can have their clubs fitted there. Club re-gripping, golf spike installation and club re-shafting are also done there.

All About Golf also plays host to The First Tee program, designed for youths ages 7-17 who want to learn how to play golf. This program is based out of Pittsburgh and registration is done there. A link to the registration is available on the All About Golf website.

The First Tee program is offered in spring, summer and fall sessions at All About Golf, on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Each session lasts for six weeks.

“Besides receiving golf lessons, the youths learn the rules and etiquette of the game,” Nypaver said.

Tee times are not needed to play the golf course. Fee is $9 to walk nine holes, $8 for seniors 65 and older or youths 12-under. Pull carts and riding carts are available.
