Student group promotes free speech
Thank you for the coverage of Wednesday’s “Inside the Trump Assassination Attempt” panel at Slippery Rock University.
The discussion was organized, hosted and moderated by a group of students dedicated to promoting freedom of speech on campus: Turning Point at SRU.
Our club seeks to provide a forum for open debate of issues that matter to the student body and the community. The attempted assassination of President Donald Trump is one of those.
We believe that college campuses should promote open dialogue about a range of topics, including politics, as part of the learning process and a search for knowledge.
But that often is not the case, even here at SRU.
On campus, I have seen people hide what they believe because they are afraid of what their friends will think or how their professors will respond.
Turning Point at SRU offers a space where students don’t have to hide their views. We invite students on both sides of the political aisle to have a voice.
Turning Point is also an America-first organization.
As the only club to promote constitutional and conservative values on campus, Turning Point at SRU is vital to create a balance in conversations on campus … and even in the community.
We invite students to join our club and the community to join us at our events. Balancing the political beliefs on a college campus can be extremely difficult, but the more people talk to each other, the easier it will be.
