Richard Johnston
Richard W. Johnston, 78, of Butler, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
Richard was born in Pittsburgh on Jan. 3, 1947, to the late Floyd and Ruth (Gray) Johnston.
Following his 1964 graduation from Mars High School, he promptly joined the Navy and served as a four-year veteran. After his military service, he moved to California and joined the Palo Alto Police Department and worked in retail security. While there, he met his wife, Janet Moureaux. Their marriage lasted 20 years, and they had two children together. They eventually moved to Pittsburgh, where Richard attended the University of Pittsburgh.
Following his divorce, he moved to Las Vegas, where he worked for 30 years and developed a love for the desert heat. He enjoyed going to the Vegas casinos; his favorite games included video poker, Double Double Deluxe, and Buffalo slots. In 2021, Richard moved back to Pennsylvania, where he lived until his death.
He is survived by his son, Mark Johnston; daughter, Amy (Jamie) Stenman; grandson, Zachary Johnston; granddaughter, Lily Stenman; brothers, Bill, Joe and Dwight Johnston; sister, Linda Doman; along with several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Richard was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Dorothy “Dottie” Johnston.
JOHNSTON — Family and friends of Richard W. Johnston, who died Tuesday, April 29, 2025, will be received from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler. A prayer service will immediately follow in the funeral home.
