High school roundup: Butler boys volleyball’s Alec Teff breaks record for aces in win vs. Deer Lakes

Butler’s Alec Teff broke the program single-season record for aces, reaching 67, as the Golden Tornado swept visiting Deer Lakes in boys volleyball play Thursday.

Teff had eight aces, and the scores of the match were 25-14, 25-14 and 25-19.

Andrew Slaughenhoup had 12 kills and Maddox McCall 12 digs for Butler (7-6), which closes the season at home Wednesday against Meadville.

Seneca Valley 3, Moon 0 — No further details were provided for the Raiders’ win.

Baseball

Sebastian Link went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Union/A-C Valley to a 10-3 victory over West Middlesex on Thursday.

Connor Langdon added two hits, two runs and three RBIs to the onslaught.

Chase Ruth pitched a complete game for the win, striking out four and walking one.

Avonworth 8, Mars 4 — The Planets responded to an early five-run deficit, cutting it to a single tally, only to have the Antelopes pull away with three runs in the top of the sixth.

Austin Kuremsky, Finn Seideneck and Danny Murray each doubled for Mars (7-9).

Pine-Richland 11, Knoch 9 — Trailing 11-3, the Knights’ rally fell short after scoring six runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Brady Linamen paced Knoch’s 14-hit attack with three base hits. The team’s record fell to 11-9.

Softball

Knoch scored eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings to win via mercy rule, 13-3 over Burrell.

Freshman Emersyn Jones went 3-for-5 with five RBIs, belting a home run, her 10th of the season. McKenna Brailey had two hits and drove in three runs for the Knights (17-1).

Hickory 10, Slippery Rock 0 — This was a 1-0 game until the Hornets plated nine runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Lillian Campbell and Savannah Smith accounted for the Rockets’ two hits.

Union/A-C Valley 10, Forest Area 0 — May Hartzel, Lillian Hayden, Emerson Stevens and Ava Snyder each doubled and Kya Wetzel tripled for the Falcon Knights.

Ashlyn Walker struck out four, walked none and allowed four hits in the victory.

Boys lacrosse

Mars defeated Sewickley Academy 13-4. No further details were provided.
