Butler’s Kids Day America to mark 25th annual event
The 25th annual Kids Day America is expected to draw thousands of people to the Butler Farm Show Grounds for a variety of educational activities and family-friendly fun designed to promote healthy lifestyles, safety awareness and environmental responsibility.
The free community event is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 10.
Through the years, it's become a beloved tradition that exemplifies the spirit of the Butler Community.
“It's an opportunity to not only enjoy hands-on activities, but also (a chance for kids) to spend time with their families and learn,” said Stuart J. Surkosky, organizational sponsor and owner of Care Chiropractic.
The event is held rain or shine, but through the years, the weather hasn't put a damper on attendance numbers.
In fact, Surkosky said it's grown substantially through the years, and in some cases, has become a multi-generational event.
“Over the years, children went and now the children are parents and they're bringing their kids,” Surkosky said. “So it's actually gone through in 25 years sometimes two generations. It's a crazy thing.”
Attendees should look forward to a lineup of activities including hayrides, inflatable slides, live music and the return of Cow Patty Bingo.
Families will have the chance to explore educational booths offering resources on child safety, crime prevention and environmental issues.
One unique feature which was added more than a decade ago is the Cruza for Kids car cruise that is now in its 13th year. In a switch-up from some car cruises, children in attendance will serve as judges for a wide variety of vehicles.
Each year, proceeds from Kids Day America are donated to a different charitable organization that aligns with the event’s values and reinforces its commitment to making a lasting difference in the lives of local children.
This year’s event will benefit The Andrew Effect, a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring children in grades K to eight through hands-on learning experiences that foster creativity, confidence and curiosity beyond the classroom.
