Man charged after standoff in Adams Township
A man was charged and involuntarily committed for evaluation after threatening a man in his Adams Township home, police said.
Jason R. Starr, 26, of Mars, was charged with one misdemeanor count each of terroristic threats and reckless endangerment related to the March 22 incident.
Police said a CRISIS employee called to inform them of Starr having a mental health crisis while in possession of a gun in an Adams Township residence.
After learning Starr had put a gun to a man’s head, police went to Starr’s residence to serve a 302 warrant, which is an involuntary commitment for psychological evaluation.
About seven officers from Adams and Middlesex townships were dispatched and found Starr was the only person at the residence. Police said Starr’s phone went straight to voicemail when they attempted to call him.
Police then set up a perimeter around the house and closed Davidson Road before announcing over the police vehicle’s loudspeaker for Starr to come out with his hands raised. Police said they saw a man in an upstairs window right after.
Police said Starr answered the phone on the third attempt after another try on the loudspeaker and said he had three guns. Officers attempted to talk with Starr about the CRISIS call and warrant, which further agitated him leading him to accidentally discharge his gun in the home.
Police said Starr exited the house shortly after and was transported by Quality EMS to Butler Memorial Hospital.
Starr’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. May 28 before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz.
