College roundup: Grove City women’s lacrosse, led by Butler grad, snags No. 1 seed in conference tournament
Butler graduate and Grove City College sophomore midfielder Tori Stevenson scored a pair of goals as the Wolverines defeated Thiel 13-2 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play on Saturday. Grove City (10-6) finished a perfect 9-0 in league play during the regular season.
Seneca Valley grad Elyse Kiggins notched five saves in the victory. Grove City College is the No. 1 seed in the six-team conference tournament, receiving a bye to the semifinal round on Thursday.
Butler County Community College golfer and Butler High graduate Xander Downing shot his second-lowest score on Friday, 2-over 72, winning medalist honors as the Pioneers defeated Community College of Allegheny County 323-365 at Glengarry Golf Links in Latrobe.
Downing’s effort was his best score since his 2-under 70 at North Park Golf Course last May.
The win, which improved BC3 to 6-0 on the season, also featured a 76 from the Pioneers’ Mitchell Covert.
Individual golfers from Westmoreland County Community College and Pennsylvania Highlands also competed in the event.
The Pioneers will host Penn Highlands, Westmoreland County Community College and Community College of Allegheny County May 2 at Lake Arthur Golf Club.
