Samuel Short Sr.
Samuel H. Short Sr. passed away peacefully Thursday, April 24, 2025, under the compassionate care of Concordia at Cabot. He was 82 years old. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Sam leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work and service to his community.
Sam was married to his beloved wife, Alice Short, for 60 beautiful years. Together, they built a loving family and cherished their shared life. He was the proud father of Sam Jr. (Elizabeth) of Butler, Donna Heusey (Rick) of Butler and Susan Rogers of Winnabow, N.C. Sam adored his role as “Pap” to seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who were a source of immense pride and joy to him.
He was a devoted brother to Elizabeth Bauder (Fred) of Portersville; and his sisters-in-law, Rita Hahn (Steve) and Mary White, both of Harmony; Donna Hall of Zelienople; and his brother-in-law, Bob Brown of Butler.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Florence Short; his brother, Thomas Short Sr.; and his sister, Kaye Brown.
A graduate of Zelienople High School in 1960, Sam went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force, where he trained as a radar maintenance technician. After his service, he began his career as a machinist and eventually became a foreman at the Herman Corporation in Zelienople, demonstrating dedication and skill in his work.
Faith was an integral part of Sam’s life. He was a longtime member of Grace Church of Harmony and found joy in serving his community through volunteer work. His contributions included serving as a Boy Scout leader, assisting at the Butler County Food Cupboard, volunteering for Victim Outreach Intervention Center (VOICe), supporting Grace Church initiatives and tending the garden at Concordia — his most recent volunteer project.
Sam’s kindness, humor and unwavering dedication to his family and community will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
