Cranberry Township home deemed ‘total loss’ in Monday fire
A Cranberry Township home was ruled a “total loss” after an early Monday, April 21, fire, according to the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company chief.
Nine fire companies responded at about 1 a.m. to find a two-story residential fire in the 1700 block of Garvin Road in Cranberry Township, according to chief Scott Garing.
He said firefighters arrived to find well-involved fires on both floors. He said the fire started from a charcoal grill on the back porch the family had used the previous night.
The fire crews had delays accessing water and did not have a hydrant available when they arrived, but the company found a hydrant within 10 minutes, Garing said.
Companies were on the scene until around 5 a.m., he said.
No injuries were reported.
A Gofundme was created to collect donations for the victims by the employer of the family’s son. According to the creator of the Gofundme, the son was in the basement when the fire started, and was able to help his parents escape before firefighters arrived to the engulfed house.
Cranberry Township Emergency Medical Services, Cranberry Township police, Adams Area Fire District, Callery Volunteer Fire Company, Evans City Area Volunteer Fire Department, Harmony Fire District, Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company, Wexford Volunteer Fire Company, New Sewickley Fire District and Economy Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
