Laurie Shafer
Laurie Joan Shafer, 67, of Cloverdale, Ind., passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
She was born in Butler on Dec. 16, 1957, to Janet Reinhart Tompkins and William Coy Mayfield.
She spent the first half of her life in Pennsylvania and then moved to Indiana, Ohio and North Carolina, before settling in Indiana to retire in 2021.
She attended Butler Senior High School and spent much of her career in the packaging industry. She was a board member of Institute of Packaging Professionals for two years. She loved reading, games, trying out new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family. Before retiring, she worked in client relations at TakeHomeServices in Charlotte, N.C.
Laurie is survived by her sons, Barry Humphrey (Heather) of Windham, Maine, and Brent Humphrey (Kimberly) of Slippery Rock; grandchildren, Rhenna, Grayson and Rowan Humphrey; brothers, Michael Mayfield (Judy), Randy Mayfield (Rebecca) and Frederick Dean Tompkins; sisters, Elizabeth Kienzynski (Bob), Rebecca Laden, Amy Ledesma and Bernadette Boothe; sisters-in-law, Margie Tompkins and Karen Mayfield; niece, Alison O’brocki; great-nephew, Edward Craig; and great-nieces, Eleanor Torres, Ember Torres and Ensley Wagner; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her mother; father; stepfather, John I. Tompkins; stepmother, Jackie Mayfield; and brothers, John I. Tompkins Jr., Robert Tompkins, Allen “Lee” Tompkins, William Coy Mayfield Jr. and William “Crawdad” Mayfield.
Laurie will be remembered in a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
She will be terribly missed by those who knew and loved her.
