Author has signing for newly released ‘Old Butler Graveyard’ book
A local author will have signing events through December to commemorate her new book that covers the history of the “Old Butler Graveyard.”
LuAnn Cherry, of Butler, recently completed her book, “The Old Butler Graveyard,” which she wrote after learning there were bodies buried at the site of the now defunct Butler Middle School that were relocated to the North Side Cemetery around 1905. There were about 700 people buried at the site starting in the 1800s, which had to be relocated in the 1900s.
Cherry said she hasn’t seen anyone else write a book about the graveyard, which is why she wanted to compile as much information as she could about the site and the relocation of the bodies. She also learned that she has a personal connection to that cemetery.
“My fourth great-grandparents were buried in that cemetery. I sort of knew that, but I didn't realize they were buried there, and that's kind of what piqued my interest,” Cherry said. “I've been doing genealogy for over 40 years. This information seemed too interesting, and I needed to get it out.”
The book is 216 pages, and Cherry is selling them for $25. Her final book signing event takes place at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Butler County Historical Society, which will be preceded by a short talk.
