David Taggart

David Dale Taggart, 74 of Slippery Rock, passed away at Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, following an extended illness.

He was born in Grove City on March 28, 1950, to Clarence K. Taggart and V. Virginia (Snyder) Taggart.

He was the husband of Doreen “Puddie” (Meyer) Taggart; and father of Kenneth (McCall) Taggart of Boonsboro, Md., Michael (Holly) Taggart, Jennifer Turner and Kristen (Jeremy) Kordich, all of Slippery Rock.

David was grandfather of Dustin Taggart, Courtney Taggart, Chase Turner, Maya Turner and Connor Kordich; brother of Larry (Jean) Taggart, Kenneth (Deb) Taggart, Ronald (Cindy) Taggart and Janet (Jim) Tarr; brother-in-law of Lori (Den) Hoffman and Debi (Bill) Girvin; and uncle of several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Team family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

David graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1968 and earned an associate degree from Butler County Community College in 1971. He attended Slippery Rock University. David was a union carpenter and retired from Rien Construction. His deep commitment to his community included 48 years as a member of the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company & Rescue Team, where he served as president, secretary, B & G BOD, lieutenant, captain, assistant chief and was fire chief for 16 years. He remained a life member.

David was an elder and member of Highland Church in Slippery Rock, where he served as trustee.

TAGGART — Friends of David Dale Taggart, who died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, may visit the family from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.

There will be additional visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Highland Presbyterian Church, 310 Franklin St., Slippery Rock.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Highland Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jeff Curtis, pastor of the church, presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company at 162 Elm St., Slippery Rock.
