Judith Raisley
Judith Kaye Raisley, 79, of Prospect, passed away peacefully late Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Concordia of Cranberry, after she lost her fierce battle with leukemia.
Born Aug. 16, 1945, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Archie Edward and Clara Elizabeth Herold Shaffer.
She was a proud 1963 alumna of Slippery Rock Area High School, who loved her schoolmates and enjoyed every class reunion. She attended Adrian College in Michigan, and then returned home to work at the former Nationwide Insurance on Main Street in Butler, where she made lifetime friends, especially Kathy (David) Craig and Louann (Richard) Lucas.
She was a housewife and mother to two daughters when her husband, Ed, suddenly passed away, leaving her to continue the operations of the Raisley Funeral Home in Prospect for over 40 years on a widow’s license. During that time, she had also served on the Slippery Rock Area School Board in the ’80s and as the local tax collector for Prospect borough, Slippery Rock School District and Butler County for 35 years, retiring in 2021.
Judy was a faithful member of the Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed being in the choir and loved her choir family at weekly Thursday night practices. Previously, she was a longtime member at The Presbyterian Church of Prospect, where she served many years as an elder. She enjoyed holiday church services and community Lenten services. She also enjoyed her friends at Prospect Emmanuel Lutheran Church and many friends at the festivals and dinners at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Prospect.
In 1987, she was one of the first women to join Rotary International in the Rotary Club of Portersville-Prospect. She earned the Paul Harris Fellow and organized numerous fundraisers, including golf outings, pancake breakfasts and Elvis shows. She enjoyed volunteering for the Rotary Turkey Round-Up and the annual fall festival at McConnells Mill State Park. She loved her Rotary family which met weekly on Tuesdays.
For over 50 years, she was a volunteer for Connoquenessing Meals on Wheels, where she also coordinated the Prospect route and housed the basket and coolers.
For many years, she worked the board of elections in Prospect, where she was the Republican majority inspector. In 2019, she was honored by Butler County commissioners for voting 50 consecutive years.
Judy enjoyed golfing and was in the Lake Arthur Ladies League for over 30 years on Wednesday mornings.
She enjoyed decorating, dressing, cooking and family time for all holidays. She adored her grandchildren and attended many musical, scholastic and sporting events for them. She loved singing, dancing, playing cards, golfing, traveling, going to the North Washington Rodeo for her birthday, shopping, shoes, jewelry and collecting many watches.
She is survived by her daughters, Vicki (Jeff) Foley of Orlando, Fla., and Keri Raisley of Prospect; her grandchildren, Kyle Foley, Alexis (Jack) Foley, Andrew Foley, Chase Gill, Nate Gill and Emma Hays; brother-in-law, Willis (Leslie) Raisley; niece, Connie Shaffer; and nephews, Bryan Shaffer, Paul Raisley and Matthew Raisley.
