Pittsburgh Zoo acquires pair of bald eagles
Two symbols of the nation are making their home at the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium, which recently acquired a pair of bald eagles — a male named Justice and a female named Liberty.
The eagles came to Pittsburgh by way of the Alaska Raptor Center in Sitka, Alaska, which nurtured them back to health after they suffered injuries in the wild. The injuries were so serious the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service determined they could not be released back into the wild.
The eagles will be on display in the Kids Kingdom area. According to Daryl Hoffman, the zoo’s vice president of living collections, the eagles will not be used for breeding.
