Matthew Eggar

Eggar

Matthew Scott Eggar, of Fairport, N.Y., passed from this life to his eternal home with Jesus on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024. He passed in the privacy of his own home with his beloved wife, his son and his two daughters at his side and his pets close by. His life of 43 years was too brief but certainly not lacking in love, fun, excitement and joy.

Born Nov. 7, 1980, in Texas, Matt moved to Portsmouth, Ohio, in the fifth grade.

Valedictorian of the Valley High School Class of 1999, he received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy and later transferred to The Ohio State University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in business and where he met the love of his life, Stephanie. Best friends from their first date, Matt and Stephanie built a life filled with joy and cherished memories.

An excellent athlete, he was a champion swimmer and a certified open water diver. He enjoyed golf, and scored an amazing hole-in-one at Oak Hill Country Club’s Championship Course.

Unfailingly honest and hardworking, he and Stephanie built a life admired by all. Matt endured a number of ups and downs in his business endeavors but he was always successful and, more importantly, maintained his unfaltering commitment to his family and his clients.

Matt’s crowning achievement in the business world was the creation of his own company, MTHW. MTHW is an acronym for “Maximize Time Health Wealth.”

More than a slogan or a creed, MTHW was the pledge Matt and Stephanie followed throughout the two-year struggle with his illness. While they never gave up searching and fighting for a cure, they fully lived the 60 years they should have had together in less than two years. They included their children, Renee, Alex and Gabi, in all their adventures and journeys, so it was most appropriate that the five of them huddled close and experienced Matt’s final moments together as a family. Matt passed on to glory leaving his family to grieve, but he did so with love, pride, dignity and faith that one day they will all be together again.

Matt is survived by his beloved wife, Stephanie Vodenichar Eggar, whom he married Oct. 4, 2003, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Butler; his children, Renee, 18, Alex, 16, and Gabi, 15; his mother, Michelle Estep Eggar of Portsmouth, Ohio; two sisters, Jennifer (Adam) Wolfe of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Sarah (Dragan) Kosanovic of Amsterdam, Netherlands; his half brother, Edward Amadoro of Philadelphia; his in-laws, Linda Corton Vodenichar and Ron Vodenichar of Georgetown, Texas, formerly of Butler; and his sisters-in-law, Sherri (David) Farias of Leander, Texas, Adrianne (Hunter) Thompson of Richmond, Va., KayLeigh (Neil) Malpass of Moseley, Va., and Marla Eggar of Scranton, Pa.

He is also survived by his godchildren, Kylie Dambach, Payton Malpass and Isaiah Thompson; and nieces and nephews, Lucy, Isaiah, Micah, Eliza, Jack, Simon, Maria, Harmony, Payton, Monroe, Alexandria, Avery, Katarina, Gavin, Nevaeh, Kyleigh, Maddison and Andrew.

Matt was preceded in death by his father, Robert Leroy Eggar; and his brother, Ryan Eggar.
