Mary Ellen Kerner, 83, of Butler, passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024, at her residence.

Born July 8, 1941, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Edward M. Dietz Jr. and Nora Ellen O’Neal Dietz.

Mary Ellen was a homemaker.

She was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.

She was a 1959 graduate of Butler High School.

She especially enjoyed reading. As a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, family was most important to her.

Mary Ellen is survived by two sons, John L. Kerner Jr. of Butler and Mark A. Kerner and his wife, Rebecca, of Butler; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Washington and her husband, Terrance, Zane Kerner, Ian Kerner and his wife, Sara, Rachel Kastelic and her fiancé, Dakota Taylor, Melissa Hempling and her husband, Evan, Jackie Kastelic III and his wife, Racquel, Jesse Kastelic, Michael Kerner and his wife, Haily, Mark Kerner II and Adelyn Kerner; two step-grandchildren, Jacob Getz and Nicole Getz; and seven great-grandchildren, Thomas and Aubrey Washington, Makenna, Ariana, and Maddox Getz, Adeline Kerner and Kolsyn Taylor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Kerner Sr., who passed away Feb. 10, 2020; two children, Michael Thomas Kerner and Nora Ellen Kerner Kastelic; one granddaughter, Sarah Marie Kerner; and three sisters, Norma Oesterling, Madelyn Summerville and Donna Lawson.

KERNER — There was no visitation for Mary Ellen Kerner, who died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024. Services and burial were private.
