James Wahl

Wahl

James E. Wahl, 83, of Evans City, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 13, 2024, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Evans City on June 30, 1940, son of the late Clara Wahl Hager and Frank Hager. He was the youngest and last surviving member of 11 children.

In 1958, Jim enlisted and served honorably in the U.S. Army. During his active service time, he was based at Fort Benning, Ga. Upon returning to Butler County, he married the love of his life, Alice Ann (Montgomery) Wahl, and the couple were happily married for the past 62 years.

Jim was a member of Old Union Presbyterian Church in Mars. He retired from Vesuvius USA (Lava Crucible), where he had worked at their former plant in Zelienople for 37 years.

Family was always Jim’s first love. He took great pride in his two children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was an active part of their lives and an ever-present guide to their well-being.

If Jim had a second love, it was bound to have an engine. From classic cars, of which he has owned a few, to motor sports and NASCAR, he was always interested in automobiles and was a backyard garage man that could tinker with the best of them.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Ann (Montgomery) Wahl; son, James L. Wahl Sr. (Sara Slaghenhaupt); daughter, Dianna M. (Mark) Burd; granddaughter, Mallory L. (Jason) Haefner; grandsons, James L. Wahl Jr., Simon D. Burd, Garrett J. Burd and Hayden D. Burd; and great-grandchildren, Aiden R. Haefner, Sophie Ann E. Haefner and Alyce K. Wahl.
