Federal REAL ID deadline approaching
Starting May 7, 2025, Pennsylvanians will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, photo ID card or other form of federally acceptable identification to board domestic commercial flights or enter certain federal facilities.
REAL ID is a federal law that affects how states issue driver's licenses and ID cards for federal purposes, like boarding a commercial flight or entering certain federal facilities, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Pennsylvanians can obtain a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or ID card by presenting documents for verification and processing at any PennDOT driver's license center. Federal regulations require that to be issued a REAL ID-compliant product, PennDOT must verify proof of identity, proof of Social Security Number, two proofs of a current address and proof of all legal name changes.
When a customer gets their first REAL ID product, they will pay a one-time fee of $30, plus a renewal fee.
