Frances D. Nichol, 82, of Karns City, passed away while in the company of her family on Tuesday afternoon, June 4, 2024, at Butler Memorial Hospital, following complications of heart surgery.

Frances was born in Karns City on Oct. 3, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Roy E. and Amelia M. Fuhs Sherwin.

She was a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church. Frances was a 1960 graduate of Fairview Township-Karns City High School and a graduate of beauty school in Pittsburgh. She was first employed by Christy’s Salon in Butler and later operated her own salons in Chicora and Karns City. Frances enjoyed crafts. She was an avid animal lover and enjoyed the company of her cats and dogs. She and her husband, Skip, enjoyed attending truck pulls. She looked forward to spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert J. “Skip” Nichol, who passed away on Nov. 22, 2023. The couple was married in Chicora on Nov. 27, 1964.

Surviving are two daughters, Julie L. Cranmer (Chris Bole) of Karns City and Crystal A. Zedreck and her husband, Edward, of Chicora; three grandchildren, Rebba Stillwagon and her husband, Jake, of East Butler, Nicholas Cranmer and his wife, Mariah, of Fenelton, and Logan Cranmer of Karns City; a brother, William “Bill” Sherwin of Petrolia; a sister-in-law, Judy E. Nichol of Bradys Bend; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

NICHOL — Friends of Frances D. Nichol, who died Tuesday, June 4, 2024, will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at HILE FUNERAL HOME OF KARNS CITY, 128 Main St., Karns City. A funeral liturgy outside of Mass will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Matt McClain, pastor of St. Clare Parish, officiating. Inurnment will be in the columbarium at Hillview Cemetery, Kepples Corners.
