Summer camps bring the fun across the county

Camp Alameda

Butler’s Alameda Park hosts Camp Alameda on weekdays from June 10 through Aug. 9.

During sessions, Camp Alameda is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with late pickup offered until 5 p.m.

Camp sessions are five days each, and campers are divided up into age-appropriate activities throughout the day. The camp is open to children ages 5 to 12. The cost is $130 per child per week.

Messy Madness week is from June 10 to 14.

Treasure Hunting week is from June 17 to 21.

Holiday Celebration week is from June 24 to 28.

Silly Science week is from July 8 to 12.

Get Soaked week is from July 15 to 19.

Alameda Olympics week is from July 22 to 26.

Local Heroes week is from July 29 to Aug. 2.

Carnival week is from Aug. 5 to 9.

Kids on Campus

Camps for children in first through eighth grade run Monday through Thursday at Butler County Community College on the following weeks: June 10 to 13, June 17 to 20, June 24 to 27, July 8 to 11, July 15 to 18, and July 22 to 25.

Morning care is offered from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and afternoon care is offered from 4 to 5 p.m. Morning care is offered at a cost of $30 per week, and afternoon care costs $20 per week. Camps are available for soon-to-be first-graders, second- through fourth-graders, and fifth- through eighth-graders.

Challenger Soccer Camp

This five-day soccer camp will take place from Aug. 19 to 23 at Alameda Park.

This camp is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The camp is for children ages 3 to 15. Cost is age-dependent and ranges from $150 or $302 to register. Registration is due by Aug. 9.

Jump Start Sports Camp

Jump Start Sports Camp is offered at Alameda Park from Aug. 12 to 16.

The camp is open to children ages 6 to12. Registration is due by Aug. 9.

DiscoverE

DiscoverE is a hands-on day camp experience that allows children to explore nature while building confidence, curiosity of the natural world and social skills.

The camp is held at Jennings Environmental Education Center. For questions or to register, call the center at 724-794-6011.

Hide-N-Seekers

Hide-N-Seekers is held Tuesdays from June 11 to 25 at Jennings Environmental Education Center.

The camp is intended for children age 4 or 5.

Sessions are offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. or 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Cost is $5 per child per session.

Outdoor Explorers

Outdoor Explorers is offered Thursdays from July 11 to 25 at Jennings Environmental Education Center.

The camp is intended for children ages 6 to 8.

Sessions are offered from 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 3 p.m.

Cost is $5 per child per session.

Penn’s Adventurers

Penn’s Adventurers is offered Wednesdays from July 31 to Aug. 14 at Jennings Environmental Education Center.

The camp is intended for children ages 9 to 12.

Sessions offered from 9 a.m. to noon.

Cost is $10 per child per session.

Butler County YMCA camps

Both YMCA locations in Butler County — the Butler YMCA and the Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA in Cranberry — offer summer camps.

The summer camp at the Butler YMCA starts June 10 and lasts until Aug. 16, and is open to kindergarten through sixth grade. Children will be taken by bus from the Butler YMCA to ARMCO Park in Slippery Rock and then back to the Butler YMCA each day. The registration fee is $215 per week per child.

The first week, from June 10 through 14, follows the theme, “Hello Summer!”

The Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA offers a school-age summer camp and a preschool summer camp. Both camps start June 10 and last until August 16.

The school-age camp is open to children from pre-K age to sixth grade. Registration fees are $210 a week for current YMCA members and $230 a week for nonmembers.

Preschool camp is open to children ages 3 to 6, and is split into two groups: Little Learners, for those attending three days a week, and Mini Movers, for those attending two days.

Registration fees for Little Learners are $80 a week for YMCA members and $110 a week for nonmembers. For Mini Movers, registration costs $55 a week for members and $75 a week for nonmembers.

Butler Catholic School camps

This summer, Butler Catholic School is holding two different summer camps: theater camp and garden camp.

The theater camp lasts from June 17 through June 21, and is open to incoming 5th through 9th-grade students. Participants will rehearse for a performance of “Into the Woods, Jr.” on June 22.

The garden camp is active on Mondays through Thursdays from July 22 to Aug. 8. Each session is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Both camps will take place at the Butler Catholic School on East Locust Street in Butler. For more information, contact the school office at office at (724) 285-4276.

Mars Robotics Association camps

The Mars Robotics Association is holding a series of four week-long camps this summer for students in fourth through eighth grade.

The first, 360-Degree Odyssey, is centered around 360-degree video production, and is scheduled for June 17-19. The instructor for this course is 360-degree video production expert Shana Simmons.

The second is a girls-only rocketry camp scheduled for July 22-26.

A “Martian Rover Expedition” camp is scheduled for July 29 through August 2, where participants will build and launch their own rockets and explore Martian terrain with LEGO robots.

Finally, a Leonardo Da Vinci camp is scheduled for August 12-16, wherein students will explore the life and achievements of the famous inventor and artist. The instructor for this course is author Elizabeth Pagel-Hogan.

The cost of registration is $200 per student for the 360-Degree camp and $250 per student for the other three. Classes will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
