Prison’s body scanners not yet delivered

Two thermal body scanners purchased for the county prison are overdue, but officials anticipate they will be delivered this week.

The county used a $337,000 federal grant to purchase the scanners from Tek84 of California in February.

They were supposed to be delivered Monday, Warden Beau Sneddon told members of the prison board at Tuesday’s meeting. He said he expects they will be delivered this week.

The prison has received the invoices and decals for the scanners, he said.

The board approved a policy for use of the scanners that were purchased to detect contraband and COVID-19. Sneddon said policies from other counties that use scanners were used in developing the policy.

One unit will be at the intake area where new inmates are processed, and the other will be placed in the county government center where it will be used to scan inmates being escorted from court to the prison.

The purchase includes two days of training for staff to use the scanners.
