Following Butler County’s second bout with heavy flooding this month, the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department was called out to perform cleanup at Renfrew Park. The fire department used one of its engines, Engine 2, to wash away flooding damage to the park’s pickleball and basketball courts.

The fire department also cleaned off the picnic shelter and tables at the nearby canoe launch. Both the canoe launch and the park sit next to the Connoquenessing Creek.

“Every time it floods, a layer of silt covers the basketball court, pickleball court, and picnic shelter,” said firefighter Kent Shoemaker. “Penn Township VFD goes to the site with an engine and hoses the silt off.”
