Moraine State Park sets schedule for April programs

As the mercury starts to rise, park season is heating up, and Moraine State Park has a lot to offer this coming April.

On April 11, Moraine is offering bird watchers a chance to get a good look at one of the rarest birds in this area, with the Woodcock Walk. The woodcock population has been on the decline in Pennsylvania in recent years, and the park is working with local agencies to create Young Forest Habitats to preserve them. Participants should meet up at Pavilion #7 at the McDanel’s Boat Launch on the North Shore, and the walk lasts from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Bird enthusiasts are welcome again on April 16 for the Bird Walk, a guided walk in search of various early season migrant species. The Bird Walk starts at 8 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley launch area on the South Shore.

There are two community cleanup days scheduled for April: a Kayak Cleaning Day on Friday, April 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a Spring Clean-up Day on Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to celebrate Earth Day. For both, participants should meet outside the park office on the South Shore.

Interested volunteers for both Moraine and nearby McConnells Mill State Park can attend the volunteer kickoff meeting at 10 a.m. April 13 at the Kildoo Pavilion at McConnells Mill.
