Freeport softball star excels in circle, at plate
Freeport’s Sydney Selker had herself one memorable afternoon on Monday.
A senior pitcher, Selker struck out 18 batters while allowing just one hit and belted two home runs at the plate in a 7-2 softball win over visiting Karns City.
Both runs the Gremlins scored were unearned.
Abby DeJidas added a single, double, home run and three RBI for the Yellowjackets.
Addison Burrows struck out six in four innings for KC and Nicole Taylor singled for the team’s lone hit.
Pine-Richland 14, Butler 4 — Shylee Karenbauer had four hits, including a double, scored one run and drove in another in this setback for Butler.
Gracie Negley added three hits for the Golden Tornado, Madison Wolfe two hits and Lily Vicari drove in a pair of runs.
Armstrong 10, Knoch 0 — No other details were available from this loss for the Knights.
Baseball
Jacob Jones struck out nine in five innings and contributed a pair of singles and RBI at the plate as Karns City opened its season with a 5-3 win over Clarion-Limestone at Pullman Park.
Adam Manuel contributed three singles and Jacob Callihan had a single and RBI. Logan Lutz had a pair of doubles for Clarion-Limestone.
The Gremlins host Redbank Valley at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pullman Park.
