Rock baseball sweeps Mountain Cats
In finishing its regular-season series with Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, the Slippery Rock University baseball team swept the Mountain Cats on the road.
The Rock (11-4, 3-1 PSAC West) blanked UPJ 6-0 in the first game, then downed them 5-4 in the latter tilt. Senior second baseman Koby Bubash was one of three SRU players to record base knocks in both contests, going a combined 4-for-6 at the dish with a run scored, four RBIs, and a pair of walks.
Joey Purcell, the reigning PSAC West Pitcher of the Week, tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener — his first complete effort of the year. He fanned eight in that performance, then went 2-for-4 at the plate in the second game.
Pitt-Johnstown’s record dipped to 9-12 overall and 1-3 in league play.
