Strange

Barbara S. Strange, 80, peacefully passed on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Salem West, Salem, Ohio.

Barbara was born in Fairview, W.Va., on Feb. 29, 1944, to Harry C. and Ethel Lenore (Wilson) Jones, and was the second of eight children. She loved her family and the years working and growing up on the farm.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed listening to and singing hymns of the Lord. She liked to ballroom dance and would attend dances two or three times a week, often traveling an hour or more.

Barbara owned and operated a hair salon for most of her life — she enjoyed making people feel good — and often would start early and close late to ensure it met her clients’ needs. She was a giving and kind person.

She is survived by her children, Steve (Kay) Strange and Amy (Ron) Upton; four grandchildren, Tyler Sowers, Tanner Strange, Brent Strange and Amber (Jamie) Boughner; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson Boughner and Zachary Boughner, and one, Grayson Sowers, due to be born in the coming week; a daughter-in-law, Juanita Strange; three sisters; two brothers; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Larry; a sister, Connie; and a son, Jeffrey.

STRANGE — A private family graveside service for Barbara S. Strange, who died Wednesday, March 20, 2024, will be held on Friday in Greenmount Union Cemetery, Freeport, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
