Jack Tunney Jr.
Jack H. Tunney Jr., 85, of Volant, formerly of Mars, passed away at home on Monday, March 18, 2024.
He was born in Brownsville, Pa., on Dec. 22, 1938. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1957. He retired from West Penn Laco after 44 years of service. He served his country in the U.S. Army.
Jack was a man of many interests. He earned a solo pilot’s license, raced go-carts, tinkered with cars, earned a ham radio license, and saw most of the USA from the seat of a motorcycle or motor home. He volunteered at Georgia state parks for four winters after retirement.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Eleanor; his daughter, Jennifer Yanssens; grandson, Kyle Yanssens; his daughter, Laura Salzano; his granddaughter, Hannah Tunney; great-grandson, Oliver Tunney and his longtime friend, Amber Barnes.
Jack was preceded in death by his son, Jack H. Tunney lll.
The family thanks the nurses and staff of Helping Hands Hospice for their kind and caring support during Jack’s illness.
TUNNEY — Visitation for Jack H. Tunney Jr., who died Monday, March 18, 2024, will be from noon until the service at 1 p.m. Friday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gideons or Lawrence County Humane Society.
