County population grew by over 4,600 between 2020-23

The county’s population grew by 4,639, or 2.4%, between 2020 and 2023 while the state population declined, according to the Pennsylvania State Data Center’s review of data released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The fastest growing counties were Pike County, 4.6%, and Cumberland County, 4.3%.

Butler County was among six counties with growth of 2% or more.

Of the 23 counties with population increases during the period, Chester County had the largest increase, with 15,369 people added. Butler County was among 11 other counties that added at least 2,000 individuals since 2020.

Pennsylvania’s population declined by just over 41,000, or 0.3% during the period.
