Freeport bowlers lose in region finals
Freeport’s girls bowling team reached the Western Pa. team finals over the weekend, but dropped a decision to champion Plum.
The Yellowjackets won the first game, 163-127, but dropped the second one 200-196 and the third game by a 224-205 count.
Individually, Freeport’s Mackenzie Livingston earned a berth in the semifinal round, but lost to Conneaut’s Lexi Potts 172-157. Livingston placed second in a five-game set, rolling a 198-926. Butler’s Kelsee McConnell was 15th with a 197-853. The Yellowjackets’ Hannah Windows was 16th with a 197-851.
Butler’s girls placed seventh in the Baker games, missing out on getting into the team playoff by 24 pins. Sixth-place Hempfield rolled a 3,147 series, Butler a 3,123 series.
Livingston placed sixth — one spot out of an all-region berth — in the three-games singles competition. She rolled a 210-555. Butler’s McConnell was seventh with a 208-535.
Tennis
Butler’s boys won their season-opening match Monday, edging Shaler by a 3-2 count.
The Golden Tornado won two singles matches and the Titans countered by taking both doubles matches. Butler’s Ben Busler pulled out the team win by scoring a three-set victory in the other singles match.
