Edward L. Sherman, 96, of Zelienople, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024, while under the care of UPMC Mercy Hospital.

Born May 22, 1927, in Butler, he was the son of the late James P. Sherman and Genevieve (Knauer) Sherman.

Ed worked as a vice president of Signal Finance and a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Ed was instrumental in founding the girls softball team in Zelienople and the girls basketball Christmas tournament. He was a member and past president of the Zelienople Lions Club, president of St. Vincent de Paul, and past president of the Zelienople Athletic Association and Zelienople Planning Commission.

In his free time, Ed enjoyed golfing, cards, vacationing at Conneaut Lake and spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

Ed leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Dr. Judith Black and her husband, Dr. Milton, of Fox Chapel, Edward L. Sherman Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Zelienople, Joan Trach and her husband, Robert, of Chicago, Ill., and James Sherman and his husband, Fred, of Palm Springs, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Audrey M. Hilliard Sherman.

SHERMAN — A Mass of Christian burial for Edward L. Sherman, who died Thursday, March 7, 2024, will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Divine Grace Parish, St. Gregory Catholic Church, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople.

He will be laid to rest at St. Gregory Cemetery in Zelienople.

In lieu of flowers, Ed’s family suggests memorial contributions in his honor be given to St. Gregory Catholic School, St. Vincent de Paul, or Lutheran Senior Life Foundation.

Arrangements have been entrusted to BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, Zelienople.
