Harmony crews extricate driver after I-79 military vehicle crash
Harmony Fire District volunteers extricated a driver from a heavy military truck following a crash on Interstate 79 Saturday, March 2 involving two military vehicles.
Harmony Fire District reported on social media that emergency medical services arrived on scene shortly before 4 p.m.
According to Harmony assistant fire chief Justin Hart, the driver was trapped by the dashboard, which crews pushed off the driver's legs.
“We just used our hydraulic rescue tools to get the driver door open, and then the dashboard was pushed out on him slightly,” Hart said. “Then we had to take one of our hydraulic rescue rams and push the dashboard away from him.”
The driver was transported by EMS with minor injuries. Hart said the driver was conscious while rescuers were freeing him from the vehicle.
“When we were out on scene, there was one driver that was trapped. Everyone else was out,” Hart said.
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident and are expected to issue a news release.
