Nonprofit not leaving site of former Covenant UPC
Nick Yannotty, founder of Breakthrough Butler, said the youth engagement nonprofit will continue operating out of the church building at 230 E. Jefferson St., even though the space is no longer Covenant United Presbyterian Church.
The Rev. John C.R. Silbert said the church was sold in June 2023 to a company called 230 E. Jefferson LLC. The LLC is owned by Jerry Oliver, who Yannotty said is allowing Breakthrough Butler to continue operating out of the church.
In addition to hosting events for children, Breakthrough Butler hosts a summer day camp, Camp Breakthrough, as well as a few sports leagues.
Yannotty said little has changed with Breakthrough Butler’s programming since church ownership changed in the summer.
“Mainly our goal is to keep trying to promote positivity,” Yannotty said. “And help kids become better versions of themselves, build friendships and self-confidence.”
Camp Breakthrough is scheduled from June 10 to Aug. 23, Yannotty said. The nonprofit also hosts events, like dances for teens, at other locations, including the Herman Volunteer Fire Company hall.
