Route 68 corridor improvement utility work beginning Feb. 19

A three-year project to improve Route 68 in Butler and Connoquenessing townships will begin on Feb. 19, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The project includes signal replacements, turn lane installation and corridor improvements. The goal is to enhance safety and reduce congestion along Route 68, a Feb. 15 news release from PennDOT said.

Starting Feb. 19, weather dependent, crews will begin water and sewer line work at the intersection of Route 68 and Double, Stevenson, Meridian and South Benbrook roads.

Motorists will be impacted by alternating single-lane restrictions directed by flaggers on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. There will be side road closures with detours throughout the project with dates to be announced as needed.

Glenn O. Hawbaker, of State College, is the contractor for this $18.7 million project, which is estimated to be completed in November 2025, PennDOT said.
