The Four Points by Sheraton Pittsburgh North was lined with what was possibly miles of yarn on Valentine’s Day weekend in 2010, for the sixth annual Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet Festival.

Between 1,600 and 1,800 people were expected over the two days, Feb. 13 and Feb. 14, 2010. Many knitters within Butler County went to pick up some supplies and others traveled over state lines to attend the event, which featured 42 vendors who sold numerous types of fibers and knitting supplies.

Christine Williamson, of Evans City, said she likes to spin wool in a quiet house. She said she has kept up the tradition that was taught to her by her mother and grandmother into adulthood.

“It's so relaxing after a stressful week,” Williamson said. “It's keeping alive our history, and it's teaching the kids.”
